Every day, billions of people around the world heavily rely on the internet for varied reasons: connect, share, email, watch, learn, search, chat, etc. From ordinary consumers at home to the government offices, schools, hotels, restaurants, banks, hospitals, publishing agencies and other private companies as well as business establishments, there is always an increasing demand for world wide web connectivity. With such demand billions of intelligent connected systems that make up the internet are also demanding for higher bandwidth to be able to cope up with this ever growing need.

With this billions (and counting) internet users, I can stand on the fact that there are also billions of things happening around the web but the question is “What exactly is happening?” Luckily, I found an answer that comes from a professional perspective through this interesting video which was published by Intel just a month ago. It highlights some significant activities that people used to do when they go online and start engaging and interacting with the rest of the world!

According to Intel, the things that are happening around the internet each minute include:
  • 30 hours of videos posted in YouTube;
  • 100,000 tweets;
  • 6,000,000 page views on Facebook;
  • 20,000,000 photo views on Flickr;
  • 47,000 app downloads on iTunes and
  • 45 new malicious websites launched
All the sites and services (except the last one) mentioned above didn't exist until 2004. The global traffic during that minute would fill up to 230, 000 DVDs and the amount of data stored would exceed 18,000 HD movies!

Watch the whole video below to know the rest of the information about the internet in a minute.

If you haven't knew about this yet, your Facebook password has 3 variations which will still log you on to the site whichever variation you use: your original password, your original password with the first letter in CAPS LOCK, and your original password in all CAPS LOCK.

3 Forms of a Facebook Password
In an article update at ZDNet written by Emil Protalinski, He described how he was still able to log on to Facebook, one morning, with his keyboard caps lock button on. Upon his "accidental discovery" he then conducted a little research through a series of communication with Facebook which clarified the issue.

The three variations has its own reason why Facebook decided to allow them during sign in. The first password is the password you provided during sign up and you're expected to enter this information by default. However, since there are cases that you might also be logging in without noticing the caps lock keys on, Facebook realized to accept 2 additional variations for your convenience. The second password as shown above is for the case when you're logging in using a mobile phone wherein the first letter is always set to be capital when entering information. While the third password variation is for the case when you just forgot to off the caps lock button when logging in using your computer.

His second update in the article reads:

“Nothing is more important to us than the security of our users and their information,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. “Our passwords are not case insensitive. We accept three forms of the user’s password to help overcome the most common reasons that authentic logins are rejected. In addition to the original password, we also accept the password if a user inadvertently has caps lock enabled or their mobile device automatically capitalizes the first character of the password. We feel this does not significantly impact the security of the user’s password or their account. Additionally, we do not store our passwords in plain text we use several encryption technologies and techniques to maintain the security of our information.”

So don't be confused when you accidentally log in to Facebook with your password reversed.  the toggled password would still work on it.

As soon as the Time Magazine revealed its annual TIME 100 which lists the most influential people in the world, I got the curiosity about who among of them are in the world of tech. While hearing or saying the word "influential" makes me think of Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates who are not just influential but also among the richest in their own generation, I was a little bit surprised to find out that most them who made it in the top list are completely unknown to me . But I feel happy now as my little research helped me to learn more information  about them and so they are just no more a "somebody".

We may haven't noticed them but the passion, efforts and contributions they have given to their works have amplified productivity in the field of technology and helped and also inspired many people around and beyond them. And just as Jeremy Lin who was named the most influential people this year at the deserved number 1 spot, these people in the world of tech are all well-deserved to be part of the prestigious list.

#4 SALMAN KHAN (Educator)

The man behind khanacademy.org, a free online education platform and non-profit organization, Salman Khan is an educator by profession who, through his Academy, wants to give every kid a free, world-class education. Moreover, the goal of Change.org according to him is to "change the balance of power between individuals and large organizations."

From a social networking site for activists to a blogging platform then transforming to a petition platform, Change.org is eyeing for a widely group of audience by expanding into other countries making its website available for different languages.

A Professor, PhD and Director of Center for Computer-mediated Epistemology in Aalborg University, Henrik Schärfe became an inspiration and influenced many of his co-inventors when his Geminoid-DK named Doppelgänger start appearing on youtube and during the TED conference.

His cool but creepy android was formed from his creative point of view that will make people uneasy enough to think about the role of technology in their lives and the boundaries between humans and machines.

#36 Anonymous (Hackers)

The next influential figure who made it in the list is not a 'person' in particular but a name that represents a group of  fearless hacktivist which has been very controversial recently because of their widely-publicized protests including The Pirate Bay, Megaupload and SOPA to name a few, and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Anonymous is indeed, the world's most famous hackers and definitely one of the most influential figure in the web.

As described by Chris Landers through the Baltimore City Paper, "Anonymous is the first Internet-based superconsciousness. Anonymous is a group, in the sense that a flock of birds is a group. How do you know they're a group? Because they're traveling in the same direction. At any given moment, more birds could join, leave, peel off in another direction entirely."

Anonymous, due to their brave protests, has been included in numerous enemies list including Arab dictatorships, the Vatican, banking and entertainment firms, the FBI and CIA, the security firm Stratfor and even San Francisco's BART transport system.
